London, SANA- A recent British study revealed that prolonged use of computers and mobile phones poses a great danger to the world

London-Sana

A recent British study revealed that prolonged use of a computer and mobile phone poses a significant risk to eye health, especially for children and adolescents.

The study, conducted by the Institute of Vision and Eye Research at Angela Ruskin University in Britain and published in The Lancet Medical Journal, confirmed that by 2050, half of the world's population will suffer from short-sightedness and poor vision due to the use of computer and mobile screens on a daily basis.

The study, which included data of more than three thousand people under the age of 33 years, showed that there is a strong relationship between screen use and myopia, noting that daily exposure to screens increases the risk of myopia by 80%.

The study pointed out that the reliance of lifestyle on technology confirms the urgent need for more research related to the extent of the impact of digital devices on the eye.

And the World Health Organization issued a report in 2019 in which it stated that more than one billion people around the world live with the problem of visual impairment due to the lack of medical care for them, with expectations that this number will double within ten years due to neglect of eye health in general.
