Mittenwald - During border controls on the B2 near Mittenwald, the federal police caught a suspected serial thief in the night from Wednesday to Thursday (October 14). In the past, the Frenchman had appeared to the police several times in both Germany and Austria because of various property crimes, such as commercial theft or breaking into cars and offering hives. Several hundred euros of change were hidden in his car.
Around midnight, the federal police checked the driver of a car registered in France at Mittenwald. The native Romanian was able to identify himself properly. He stated that he came from a family visit in Austria and was on the way to his home country. However, the 57-year-old didn't have any luggage with him. Instead, the officers searched his vehicle and found various tools that could be used for breaking and entering. Socks filled with small change lay hidden in the engine compartment of the car and under the cover of the center console. The 50 cent, one and two euro coins had a total value of over 300 euros. The "savings stockings" were seized and the alleged thief of the offering was provisionally arrested.
In the meantime, the notified state police station in Murnau has started further investigations.
The French national could be released from police custody, but had to deposit 200 euros in advance as security for the upcoming criminal proceedings by order of the public prosecutor's office.
He will probably have to expect a summons soon.
