It also needs Mali, which could well see the arrival of mercenaries from the Wagner group, to come and help the country fight against the jihadists.
France, which has been engaged for eight years alongside the Malian army to repel terrorists, is not thrilled at the idea of an agreement between its ally and the private army - seeing it as a means for Vladimir Poutin to expand its influence on the African continent.

It is apparently not just China that is making its comforts all over the world.
Russia is also seeking to expand its influence, especially in Africa.
The announcement of the start of a military withdrawal from France was seen as a boon by Moscow, which, already well established in Syria, Libya and the Central African Republic, now intends to place its pawns in Mali.
