The North Rhine-Westphalian state government currently sees no need to adapt the penal law for transgender or intersex prisoners.
In September the Berlin House of Representatives passed an amendment to the penal law, which also affects this issue: In the future, for example, a transgender man can also be housed in a women's prison in individual cases.
Düsseldorf - In North Rhine-Westphalia, according to the Ministry of Justice, decisions are made on both the "form of accommodation and other enforceable treatment" on a case-by-case basis.
"Statutory changes are currently not planned - also with a view to the small number of imprisoned people in this group of people," said a spokesman.
The ministry was initially unable to say how many transgender or intersex prisoners there are in concrete terms.
