Today (14th) is the Double Ninth Festival holiday, two surfing accidents occurred at Big Wave Bay Beach in one day. The Hong Kong and Kowloon Life Saving Staff Association pointed out on the Facebook page that it was at 4pm when the beach was quite big and the red flag warning was issued. However, there were still a large number of swimmers carrying surfboards to surf, during which two swimmers were pushed to the reef and shouted for help due to swells and undercurrents.
The union claimed that several lifeguards were dispatched immediately to rescue, but during the process, swimmers and surfboards continued to be rushed to lifeguards and drowning persons by big waves. The situation was very chaotic. Fortunately, the two were rescued successfully. The lifeguards were also in the process. Suffered minor injuries.
The spokesperson of the Hong Kong and Kowloon Life Saving Staff Association, Hu Qirong, said that another accident occurred at Big Wave Bay Beach at noon today. The lifeguard was notified by swimmers that a male surfer was rushed to the rocky beach by the big wave and was trapped. After leaving, the lifeguard put on fins and went to the sea to assist and rescue the swimmers to a safe position.
The union calls on citizens to pay attention to water safety and refrain from water activities in bad weather.
