Two-toed sloth Lele survives rare twin births

The animal newcomer is called Lele, weighs only a good 350 grams and has had an eventful first few days: The Dresden Zoo has offspring among the two-toed sloths - albeit under difficult conditions.

Of the twins that the female sloth Marlies gave birth to just over a month ago, only Baby Lele survived, as the zoo announced on Thursday.

Dresden - The little sloth is currently being raised by animal keeper Nicole Brzoska, who Lele feeds goat milk seven times a day and takes it home with her in her free time.

"Because, in addition to the basic supply of milk and food, physical contact, warmth and closeness for the development and health of the young animal are very important for rearing, as is the case with every mammal," it says in a press release.
