For the first time since the takeover of power in Afghanistan, a Taliban delegation has traveled to Turkey for talks. The meeting emphasized the importance of allowing women and girls to attend school and work, said Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu on Thursday after the meeting. Afghan Taliban leaders also said they would do everything in their power "to help Afghan migrants in Turkey who want to return to their homeland," Çavuşoğlu said. For their part, the Taliban asked Turkey to continue investing and providing aid in Afghanistan.

After the seizure of power, the militant Islamist Taliban had banned 7th to 12th grade students from going to school.

Accordingly, they are only allowed to resume lessons when a "safe learning environment" has been created.

Young women are allowed to attend universities, but only in seminars that are separated according to the sexes.

Boys have been allowed to go to schools again across the country since September 17.

Around four million migrants, mostly Syrians, currently live in Turkey.

After the Islamist Taliban came to power in Afghanistan in August, there was a mass exodus.

Turkey then announced that it would not tolerate a new wave.

The Taliban said at the end of August that they were aiming for close cooperation with Turkey, for example in business and education.

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan said his country wanted to help the Taliban build infrastructure.

Turkey has withdrawn its soldiers from Afghanistan.

While other countries have closed their diplomatic missions in Kabul, the Turkish embassy is still open.
