"I don't even want to give up, mom and dad, you don't want to give up on me." After the words, Liang Sheng and Liang Tai already cried out with a look of hesitation, very worried about their son's condition.

The 13-year-old Fengfeng was originally a pistachio in his family, but the misfortune in August brought their family to the greatest difficulty in life.

The lively Fengfeng Suddenly suffered from acute heart failure. He has been in the Intensive Treatment Department of Children's Hospital for more than a month. Although the whole body is filled with a throat tube and daily kidney dialysis is required, he still actively fights against the disease. Tears recalled: "I told him at the time that I would never give up on you."

The attending doctor said that Fengfeng diagnosed dilated cardiomyopathy and must rely entirely on instruments to survive. Sudden onset of diarrhea and vomiting in August this year

Fengfeng’s father, Mr. Liang, recalled that his son had a sudden diarrhea and vomiting in early August. He took him to a private outpatient clinic and was diagnosed with gastroenteritis. However, he turned to cough the next day. But things still didn't get better the next day. "When I saw that there were so many ways, I felt that I didn't get there. I immediately took him to the emergency, and when I knew it, I went to the intensive care department. It only happened within a short time."

Mom: I just hope that he can live a long life

Liang’s mother said that as a parent, she most hopes that her children will grow up healthily. "But I have never imagined that a child is close to death. I used to want to read a good book and find out what he wants to do, but the family is not enough. The courage only hopes that he can live a long life."

Fengfeng stayed in bed and did not heal, which made Liang's mother very heartbroken. "I bought a spinning top to play, but he couldn't play it." The son's true feelings revealed that Liang's mother could not cry. "You are so sad, I It’s not going to play, let’s show your money. I can’t even play with simple toys. I really feel so heartbroken..." Mr. Liang next to him caressed his wife.

Fengfeng is optimistic that he is confident that he can recover from his illness

Fengfeng is lively and active on weekdays. Dad Leung said that he has always had little sickness and loves swimming and other water activities. Although he is very filial at a young age, he does not forget to buy small accessories as souvenirs even if he goes to outlying islands on weekends with his relatives and friends. "Because Knowing that his mother is going to work again, he frightened him." Dad Liang continued that there was no history of heart disease at home. Chen Xishun, a consultant doctor in the Children and Adolescents Department of Hong Kong Children’s Hospital, added that Fengfeng went to the Accident and Emergency Department of Ruttonjee Hospital on August 7 due to asthma, fever, chest pain and cough, and was transferred to the Pediatrics Department of Eastern Hospital the next day. The treatment department was transferred to the deep cut treatment department of the Children's Hospital on the same day to connect with an artificial heart-lung machine.

However, in late August, because the condition did not improve, the left and right ventricles failed, so he switched to a dual-ventricular assist device. At the same time, the peak-to-peak renal function deteriorated and he needed dialysis.

At the beginning of September, I tried to remove the external right ventricular assist device from Fengfeng, but found that the heart could not function normally, which meant that its cardiac circulatory function was completely supported by the assist device, so it was reconnected a week later.

Dilated cardiomyopathy is rarely diagnosed in 100,000 children and only 1 person

He also mentioned that Fengfeng's condition is rare. Only 1 person is diagnosed with dilated cardiomyopathy for every 100,000 children every year. Most of them have no specific cause, and only about 3-4% are related to genetic factors.

He continued that the symptoms of dilated cardiomyopathy are not obvious and can be induced by minor diseases.

Chen said that as the medical equipment has been exhausted, emergency heart transplantation is Fengfeng’s only hope for survival. He hopes that people with kind hearts will be willing to donate to the beloved. Chen also pointed out that Fengfeng is working hard to face and receive physical therapy and train his lungs. There are currently 3 children under the age of 18 in the Children’s Hospital waiting to change their hearts. Chen Xishun said that due to Fengfeng’s emergency condition, “it is in the highest position.” Chen said that the Children’s Hospital has performed 11 heart transplants for children since 2019. The average waiting time for surgery is one to two years, but some patients start from several years.

Ren Liheng, a consultant cardiothoracic surgeon at the Children’s Hospital, pointed out that Fengfeng’s current situation is like a race against time. The longer the time, the risk of complications will increase day by day, such as bleeding or infection, which is also life-threatening. He currently relies mainly on connecting the heart. The life of the instrument continues, even if it is equipped with the best medical equipment in the world, it is not zero risk. "The sooner you can get a suitable heart, the greater the chance of recovery after surgery."
