Miesbach - The Oldtimerfreunde Miesbach have enjoyed steadily increasing popularity since they were founded in April 2015.

And we can now look forward to another prominent member.

Started with 76 members, the 200 mark has now been cracked - and Miesbach's Mayor Gerhard Braunmiller has secured this special number.

Because he also owns a vehicle that has been cared for over decades: a BMW R 80 GS PD.

Took a lot of tours

The motorcycle was built in 1986 and Braunmiller bought it in 1989, 32 years ago.

And since then have driven 60,000 kilometers.

“I've been to France, England, Hungary and, of course, Italy with the BMW,” he says.

He explored London and Normandy with it.

Equipped with a tent and sleeping bag, side case and tank bag.

Braunmiller still has the machine today.

He continues to keep them in good shape, even if the number of trips has decreased in recent years.

"Today there are only small rounds," reports the town hall chief.

Sometimes up to the Sudelfeld, sometimes over to the Tegernsee.

And something else has changed: In contrast to the big tours, his wife Alexandra accompanies him less and less, but his twelve-year-old son.

E-mobility?

Braunmiller sees more of a hydrogen combustion engine

Erhard Pohl, chairman of the Oldtimerfreunde, who presented Braunmiller with the certificate of membership together with second chairman Erich Sterrer and third chairman Reinhard Megele, was very impressed by Braunmiller's BMW: “You have to be able to drive on a machine like this.

In contrast to the new machines, the machine doesn't think of everything. ”Working on the device also requires knowledge and a sure instinct -“ there is no diagnostic connector ”.

It was also agreed that the internal combustion engine is a showpiece of German engineering.

None of the four really want to believe that it should no longer have a future - just as little as it will be replaced by electric motors.

Engineer Braunmiller sees the hydrogen combustion engine as a hybrid solution as an alternative.

But that won't be an alternative to his BMW either.
