A year ago to the day, Samuel Paty was assassinated by an Islamist terrorist, beheaded near the college of Bois-d'Aulne, where he was teaching in Conflans-Sainte-Honorine (Yvelines).

Tributes will be paid to him this Friday in all schools in France.

At the request of the Ministry of National Education, all schools in France are holding moments of meditation this Friday in tribute to the history-geography teacher. One hour of class will be devoted to debates and discussions on the themes of freedom of expression and critical thinking. A minute of silence will close this tribute closed to the public. In Valenton (Val-de-Marne), an internal ceremony is also scheduled in the afternoon in the new Samuel-Paty college. An exhibition showing the students' work on fraternity and secularism will be unveiled.

At 4 p.m., in Conflans-Sainte-Honorine.

At the Collège du Bois-d'Aulne, the day will end with a ceremony in the establishment where the wall of freedom of expression, built with the students during the week, will be unveiled in particular.

A total of 280 students and 30 teachers will participate at this time closed to the public.

Parents of students have however announced that they want to meet in front of the establishment.

Saturday in Paris, in Éragny and in Conflans

A Samuel-Paty square will be inaugurated in front of the Hôtel de Cluny and opposite the Sorbonne in Paris (5th arrondissement).

The town hall of Paris decided to rename the square Paul-Painlevé in this way, in homage to the professor and in the presence of his family.

The ceremony will take place behind closed doors but the place will be open to the public from Sunday at 9 a.m. for those who wish to meditate there.

At 10:15 am, in Éragny (Val-d'Oise).

A ceremony will be made in this city where Samuel Paty resided.

During this moment of contemplation programmed at the gymnasium of the Butte, a fresco by a graffiti artist, also Éragnien, will be unveiled.

At 2:30 p.m., at the Conflans college.

A tribute will take place in the grounds of the Collège du Bois-d'Aulne in the presence of the entire educational community. 300 people, including students and their parents, are invited. The head of establishment will introduce this tribute, in the presence of the former head. The staff will read together a speech they wrote in honor of their colleague and the students who participated in projects during the year will share their productions. Thus, several students will declaim their slams around freedom and homage to their teacher. In an audio recording, college students will perform Paul-Eluard's poem “Freedom”. Jean-Michel Blanquer, Minister of National Education, will close this ceremony.

At 3.30 p.m., Place de la Liberté in Conflans.

The municipality will unveil a monument in the form of a monumental book. One year after a rally at the same place, the mayor (DVD) Laurent Brosse meets the inhabitants to discuss freedom of expression and the population will be able to leave a message on a "wall of expression" also built for the opportunity. The book will appear open, at the edge of the square. "It is essential to pay tribute to Samuel Paty and the values ​​he defended through his teaching, not only to perpetuate his memory and never forget, but also to recall our unwavering attachment to our values ​​and to freedom of expression" , explains the chosen one.

The parents and relatives of Samuel Paty will be received by the President of the Republic Emmanuel Macron.
