On Wednesday, Captain Kirk actor William Shatner (90) was shot into space on board a rocket from Jeff Bezos' space company Blue Origin.

The next day, Prince William commented on the suicide mission from a climate perspective.

And the 39-year-old's enthusiasm is not exactly astronomical - on the contrary.

In an interview with the BBC, the father of three emphasized that he was "absolutely not interested" in a trip into space.

There are "fundamental questions" about CO2 emissions from flights into space, the Royal continued.

Finding solutions to climate change is more important than looking for habitable planets in space, says Prince William.

"The smartest minds in the world should concentrate on repairing this planet instead of trying to find the next place to go to live," said the prince in the conversation.

William, who, together with the legendary BBC documentary filmmaker David Attenborough, has awarded a prize for the best ideas on climate and environmental protection, is expected, along with other royals, at the UN climate conference in Glasgow in November.

Queen Elizabeth II (95), Duchess Kate (39) and William's father Prince Charles and Duchess Camilla have also announced their participation.

William, number two in the British line of succession, now praised him as a pioneer of the environmental movement.

His father “talked a lot about climate change very early on, before anyone else believed it was an issue,” said the Royal.
