Children's fire brigade in Weßling: Young people from Florian let themselves be looked over their shoulders

Weßling - Last weekend, a good 20 children between the ages of six and eleven collected lots of fun and useful knowledge as part of the information afternoon organized by the Weßling volunteer fire brigade. At Argelsrieder Straße 112, the comrades had put together a varied program for the youngsters. And that was obviously convincing: on the same day, 13 advance registrations for the children's fire brigade were received.

Colin enthusiastically watched the thick smoke that spread in the doll's kitchen. “What do you do first when you are in a room with smoke?”, Fire fighter Georg Schmied wanted to know from the six children who gathered around the so-called “smoke house”. Big guesswork. "Extinguish it?" Asked Laura with a hopeful look at the Matchbox fire truck parked next to it. “Not yet,” said the firefighter in the negative. The correct answer had been, "You are leaving the house." And quickly. Under no circumstances should they hide in the house. Many children follow this reflex - with devastating consequences. "How do we let the smoke out", Schmied asked the possible junior firefighters. Colin had the big idea and was allowed to open doors and windows. The rescue group vehicle, or HLF for short, was also a magnet.Vice-chairman Fabian Kunte instructed the crowd in the finesse of the fire engine. Inside was a lucky bag of exciting things. The seemingly infinite hose, for example, which, to Korbinian's delight, dripped when it was pulled out. Or the water tank that holds 1,600 liters. The little guests kept their distance from the two active people, who looked like aliens in their protective suits. Not least because the breathing apparatus gave off a ghostly hiss. On the other hand, the children lost their shyness while running the house. They laughed heartily at the chemical suits that were upside down and puffed up on the dryer - just as if someone were in them upside down.Inside was a lucky bag of exciting things. In the afternoon, the elementary school students had a lot of fun and learned a few things in a playful way. About the function of the first responder, an extra unit of the weirs. After an emergency call, the volunteers provide first aid to sick or injured people by car. "What is that?" Paul wanted to know. “A blood pressure monitor for children,” replied Markus Klaunzler from the voluntary rescue service. He should try it out on Paul, who a short time later wrapped a thick bandage around Dani's wrist. Then the friends strolled to the station where the fire was lit - and of course extinguished again immediately. Sven Kuhlmann showed the young comrades what burns and what doesn't. Paper, foam, power cables or plastic cord were set on fire - and extinguished again using various methods.

"We have 13 pre-registrations and some who are still thinking about it," said youth warden Barbara Chorherr yesterday, when asked by the Starnberger Merkur, a positive conclusion.

And two parents have signed up for the adult fire brigade.

The children's fire brigade officially starts in November.

“We will decide the exact date and day during the week,” says Chorherr.
