In the south-western bell tower C of the Dresden Frauenkirche, real Dresden Christmas stollen is ripening for the first time.

The limited edition of 300 pieces was stored on Friday at a height of 29 meters.

The climatic conditions there are ideal for the famous Christmas biscuits: "No heating, a constant wind and the temperature around 5 degrees are extremely good," said master Rüdiger Zopp from the mill bakery.

Dresden - The "Striezel" remain until the right consistency for consumption behind the shutters of the bell chamber of the late baroque church, which was destroyed in 1945 and rebuilt after 1990 with donations from all over the world - between heaven and earth.

According to Zopp, the maturation of the freshly baked Stollen is decisive for the taste.

Temperature, humidity, air quality and their circulation played a major role.

“It used to be kept in the unheated bedroom until Advent, but it doesn't exist anymore today.” In 40 days, at the end of November, the special edition is to be sold, with a portion of the donation for the Frauenkirche Foundation.

Other Dresden Christmas stollen are also sold long before Advent.

Apple trees feel spring again

Is it spring again?

Some apple trees near Zwiefalten on the Swabian Alb have pale pink spots of color in mid-September.

Usually fruit trees only sprout when it gets warmer after winter.

Biologist Alexandra Kehl from the University of Tübingen suspects a hail storm as the cause of the spring fever in late summer.

Such extreme events as heat, drought or heavy pruning can stress plants to such an extent that the dormancy of the buds is broken.

"The Frauenkirche and Stollen belong to Dresden, are connected to the city, and so it is obvious that a kind of joint venture should be made," said Pastor Markus Engelhardt.

Church and marketing used to be relatively unfamiliar to him, but marketing is important for the maintenance and use of the building.

The building has to be self-supporting and is “a hybrid” of sacred space and event location.
