Federal Returning Officer Georg Thiel confirmed the final result of the federal election on September 26th on Friday. The chaos in the Berlin election is "unacceptable".

Federal Returning Officer Georg Thiel confirmed the final result of the federal election on September 26th on Friday.

The chaos in the Berlin election is "unacceptable".

Berlin - Almost three weeks after the federal election, the official final result was announced by Federal Returning Officer Georg Thiel.

Compared to the preliminary results of election night, there were almost no changes.

However, by moving the seat, a politician has to move out of the Bundestag after three weeks.

In addition, the Federal Returning Officer strongly criticized the Berlin election organization and is even considering raising an objection in person.

Official final result of the federal election: CDU wins a seat

According to Thiel, there are no changes in the second vote result compared to election night.

The SPD comes to 25.7 percent (2017: 20.5), the Union to 24.1 percent (32.9), the Greens to 14.8 percent (8.9), the AfD to 10.3 percent (12.6), the left at 4.9 percent (9.2).

However, there is a small change in the distribution of seats in the Bundestag.

Due to a second vote increase of the CDU of 4491 votes, the party wins an additional mandate via the state list in North Rhine-Westphalia.

For the distribution in the Bundestag this means: 206 seats for the SPD, 197 for the Union, 118 for the Greens, 92 for the FDP, 83 for the AfD, 39 for the Left and 1 seat for the South Schleswig Association of Voters (SSW).

The Bundestag thus increased by 27 members to a total of 736. The turnout was 76.6 percent (2017: 76.2 percent).

Green politician: After three weeks, move out of the Bundestag

Nothing has changed in terms of percentage points or the distribution of seats in the Bundestag (apart from the increase in the number of seats in the CDU) - nevertheless, a Green politician has to move out of the Bundestag after three weeks.

Michael Sanner from North Rhine-Westphalia makes space for his party friend Beate Walter-Rosenheimer.

According to the official final result, the list of the Bavarian Greens for the Bundestag gets one more place - the one from NRW gets one less.

“Now it actually happened.

Unfortunately, I was only a temporary member of the 20th German Bundestag for three weeks, ”Sanner wrote on Facebook on Friday.

"For me personally, of course, a bitter blow, especially since I was able to get a glimpse of what the federal political work in the Bundestag looks like during the first few days in Berlin and what I could have helped to shape." "

Federal Returning Officer: Clear criticism of the Berlin election organization - "Not acceptable"

Due to the mishaps on election day in Berlin, by-elections cannot be ruled out. The Federal Returning Officer described the incidents, which were largely due to organizational deficiencies, as avoidable. "The German electoral system imagines a different quality than what it appeared here in Berlin on September 26," said Georg Thiel. He is therefore considering to appeal against the validity of the election in individual constituencies.

In Berlin, not only the general election took place on September 26th.

Citizens also elected the House of Representatives and District Councils.

They also voted on a referendum on the expropriation of large housing companies.

The Berlin Marathon took place on the same day.

This went hand in hand with many road closures.

There followed mishaps in the form of missing ballot papers, waiting times of several hours and closed polling stations.

This is "not acceptable and certainly not for a federal capital and for a German electoral system," said Thiel.
