(CNN) -
Former United States President Bill Clinton was admitted to the University of California Irvine Medical Center for an infection not related to covid-19.
He is "on the mend" and "in good spirits," according to a statement from Clinton's spokesman Angel Ureña.
Clinton was diagnosed with an infection and was admitted to the ICU for "close follow-up," according to a joint statement by Dr. Alpesh Amin and Dr. Lisa Bardack.
He remains in the hospital and, after two days of treatment, is responding well to antibiotics, according to the statement.
"We hope he goes home soon," doctors say.
