The University of Hong Kong had previously applied to the Town Planning Board for the rezoning of a green area on Sassoon Road for the construction of a new teaching building to cope with the annual increase in medical bachelor's places in the future.
Some engineers believe that the green space for the site of the proposed building of the University of Hong Kong is located on a slope. The difficulty of the project is greatly increased, and problems such as traffic and building structure will occur. If it needs to be resolved, it may increase the cost of the project and delay the construction period by at least three years.
According to a document from the Town Planning Board, the new teaching building will have four buildings with an area of approximately 17,000 square meters and a total floor area of approximately 43,000 square meters.
Among them, the tallest building has 9 floors, with teaching facilities, teaching laboratories, research laboratories, offices and storage space in the building.
The University of Hong Kong is expected to start construction in the summer of 2023 and complete it in 2026.
