Russian President Vladimir Putin has declared that there is no need to rush into official recognition of the Taliban.
During today's meeting of CIS heads of state, Putin said, according to TASS: "We understand that we need to interact with the Taliban, but we should not rush."
Pointing out that it would be difficult for the Taliban to give up a source of income such as drug smuggling, Putin said: “The problem of drug production and trafficking in Afghanistan is still very acute and Afghanistan is still the largest supplier of opiates in the world and despite the promise to combat drug production, the Taliban movement. Actually..I don't know if they want to do that.”
He pointed out that there are 2,000 ISIS terrorists in northern Afghanistan whose leaders plan to influence other countries and regions in Russia.
