Little by little to the new Grafing-Moosach-Glonn cycle path

The long-awaited continuous cycle path from Grafing via Glonn to Moosach is a long time coming.

The plans presented now show that it will not be a commuter route.

District / Glonn

- Because the project of the cycle path between Grafing and Glonn cannot be implemented quickly as a whole, it has now been divided into sections.

Means: proceed step by step.

In some cases, implementation is not planned until 2025.

And there are still some unanswered questions.

But one thing is clear: Due to many restrictions, this will not be a cycle path suitable for everyday use - i.e. not a fast connection for commuters who want to switch from car to bike.

The planned cycle path has been up for debate for years, primarily for reasons of nature conservation (see box).

One of the key words is the former railway embankment.

Now there was an interim report in the district council's environmental committee.

Ten sections are planned for a distance of around ten kilometers.

The interim status was presented by Martin Riedl, who is also responsible for land negotiations in the district office when space is needed for projects.

Because this point is always a central question.

Subject to the availability of the property, the implementation of the first section from Pierstling (city of Grafing) to the Taglaching industrial park is planned by the end of 2023.

This piece could be completed together with the section between the industrial park and the beginning of the village.

The area in between, in the industrial park itself, is already finished.

On the road to Pienzenau, a first gap for a connection to Alxing is to be established in the future.

From Baumhau it will not continue until 2025

The planned route continues towards Baumhau.

According to the District Office, a possible partial use along the old embankment outside of the protected area should be checked.

Implementation is planned for 2025.

The next section to Gutterstätt is difficult over a length of one kilometer.

A possible alternative north of the railway embankment above the slope edge to Falkenberg is being examined.

Then there is a gravel path from Gutterstätt to the former train station in Moosach.

It was not developed, but usable, it said at the meeting.

“The expansion width does not correspond to that of a regular cycle path”, is also stated in the submission of the district office.

Controversial: The expansion of the old railway embankment between Moosach and Glonn.

In the further course of the route there are two options: either using the existing municipal road or upgrading the path on the former railway embankment. This is then also the basis for the following, eighth section with a length of around 1.9 kilometers. There, individual pathways would have to be repaired and standing steel rails at the edge of the path removed. What then comes for the cyclist is the decided "nature experience path", which has yet to be put into practice. The gravel there is very coarse and therefore difficult to cycle on. As an experiment, finer material is to be installed on one section. In coordination with the lower nature conservation authority, the further course should then be strengthened.

The last section is the stretch to Glonn with a length of 2.5 kilometers.

The route leads over public field and forest paths and, according to the district office, is already there.

It is emphasized that a nature conservation examination is still pending for all construction phases.

This should be carried out piece by piece, depending on the realization of the route.
