Murnau's club community is not deterred by the pandemic and would like to hold the popular Christmas market again this year on the spacious area in front of the culture and conference center - with slightly fewer stands and spacing rules.

There are still some question marks about infection protection.

Murnau

- Michael Montag, spokesman for the Murnau club community, does not hold back his joy: "I am incredibly happy," says the chairman of the fire brigade association.

The alliance's organizational team unanimously decided that the traditional Christmas market should take place again this year after it was canceled last year - despite Corona and strict conditions.

“We'll do it,” says Montag with conviction.

The date is set: on the third weekend of Advent on December 11th and 12th.

Positive signals from the state government

It is not a matter of course that the people of Murnau take this route. Because in many places similar events have already been canceled. An important decision-making aid to try it nonetheless came from Munich: The Bavarian State Minister for Economic Affairs, Hubert Aiwanger (Free Voters), and Health, Klaus Holetschek (CSU), gave the go-ahead for Christmas markets in the Free State this week. The two top politicians agreed on a common concept on Wednesday, according to which the booth magic should be possible this winter without major restrictions such as 3G and mask requirements, fencing of the market area and the ban on serving alcohol. A detailed general hygiene concept is still to be agreed and published. "The increasing progress in vaccination allows us to give more freedom again this year for Christmas markets",says Holetschek.

In the Garmisch-Partenkirchen district office, people remain cautious: "We are waiting for the precise regulation of the state government," explains spokesman Wolfgang Rotzsche.

In Murnau, however, a finished concept is already on the table: the market area at the culture and conference center - in addition to Horváth-Platz, parts of Postgasse, Bahnhofstrasse and the castle moat are also used again - is around 3,600 square meters, calculates Monday.

If, as expected, around 1000 visitors come, he believes that everyone has enough space to keep the required minimum distance of one and a half meters.

“That is easily possible,” he emphasizes.

Personal responsibility is required here.

“That is a civic duty.” Boards will also point out the “rules of the game” in order to keep the risk of infection as low as possible.

44 stands planned

Montag and his colleagues want to set up the stands “a little more airy” this year. It should be 44 in total - ten fewer than two years ago. The calculation behind it: A crowd should be avoided in this way. Montag admits that it is not yet possible to estimate which hygiene regulations apply directly at the sales outlets. There are local clubs again, starting with the traditional costumes up to the TSV, as well as tradespeople with them. “Everyone has something special,” reveals Montag. The palette of culinary delicacies extends from sausages and potato noodles to tarte flambée and crêpes. The range of handmade products, for example made of wood, wax or wool, is also impressive.

And what if the pandemic returns in full force?

A short-term cancellation of such an open-air event can never be ruled out one hundred percent, says Montag.

This could have a wide variety of reasons - not just Corona, but also a storm, for example.

However, he assumes that the incidence values will remain in the green area due to the progress in vaccination.

“I'm totally relaxed about it,” explains the Murnauer.

It is important to him that sociability and community are finally cultivated again.
