The common goal of the SPD, Greens and FDP for a faster coal phase-out, ideally by 2030, is met with resistance in Brandenburg.
"The planned break of the coal compromise is a slap in the face of the people in Lusatia," said CDU parliamentary group leader Jan Redmann on Friday.
"The planned exit as early as 2030 would be a tough cut for the entire region."
Potsdam - Prime Minister Dietmar Woidke (SPD) must insist at the coalition negotiations that the broadly negotiated compromise be adhered to until 2038.
Lusatia in southern Brandenburg is severely affected by the phase-out of lignite.
Woidke had warned in September that an early coal phase-out could endanger energy security.
"Some are trying to create a quick exit mood here, but keep silent about the fact that we are still far from being able to secure an energy supply from renewable sources for all of Germany," he told the dpa.
SPD Chancellor candidate Olaf Scholz spoke out against bringing forward the coal phase-out in Germany during a visit to Lusatia in August and referred to the 2019 agreements.
But he also sees scope for an end before 2038.
The SPD, Greens and FDP are striving for a faster exit.
“In order to meet the climate protection goals, an accelerated phase-out of coal-fired power generation is also necessary.
Ideally, this will be successful by 2030, ”says a joint paper on the results of the explorations.
So far, the coal phase-out is planned by 2038 at the latest, but it would be possible as early as 2035 after several test steps.
