The candidate for the LR Congress has decided to become a member of the party again a few hours after his competitor in Ile-de-France.

Almost four years after leaving Les Républicains - after Laurent Wauquiez took the party in December 2017 - Xavier Bertrand will resume his membership card, according to information from BFM-TV, confirmed in

Figaro.

"Yes, I will re-join the Republicans by November 16,"

said Xavier Bertrand after an exchange with Christian Jacob.

And to add: "

From the moment I participate in the Congress, I accept the rules

At the beginning of the morning, the president of the Christian Jacob party had alluded to the situation of Xavier Bertrand on Twitter: If

"there is no obligation to be an LR member to compete in the congress of designation of our candidate ( ...) the coherence to appear in front of the militants is to be oneself adherent to LR

”.

A few hours after the announcement of the return to the party of Valérie Pécresse, who had also returned her card in June 2019 after the party's fiasco in the European elections, Xavier Bertrand, under pressure from activists and tenors of the right decided to do the same so as not to be taken aback in the campaign which has started with the federations and LR members.

Without this decision, Picard would not even have been able to vote for him during the tie-breaker between the candidates.

This decision may reassure the activists, who are angry with him for having left the party in 2017 and "

we will avoid some debates,

" said a member of the management.

The president of Hauts-de-France was also in operation to reconquer the militant base, Thursday evening, in Oyonnax (Ain).

"Some have no doubt regrets or resentment,"

first tried to reassure the candidate for Congress.

And to launch:

"I did not join another party, not create another party, and above all I did not betray my political family."

While the president of Hauts-de-France had a whole solitary strategy since his declaration of candidacy last March, outside any partisan structure, he made an about-face at the beginning of the week on TF1, explaining that he first wanted to

"bring together"

his political family before doing the same with the French.
