Raheem Sterling admitted yesterday (Thursday) that he did not rule out leaving Manchester City, and will consider moving abroad.
The player who was a key part of the England squad reaching the Euro 2020 final, struggled for his game minutes with Pep Guardiola and opened the season with just two Premier League games in the squad.
Sterling had less than two years left on the contract, but negotiations on his extension were halted when the team were willing to allow him to leave last summer.
Speaking for the first time about his future, Sterling said he focuses on achieving more playing time at the highest level.
"If it was possible to go somewhere else where I would get more playing time I would be open to it. As an English player all I know is the Premier League and I always thought, 'You know, maybe one day I would love to play abroad and see how I deal with that challenge.'
After scoring 30 goals in 51 games for City in all competitions in the 2019/20 season, Sterling scored 14 goals for the club last season.
Speaking at the FT Business of Sport conference in the US, Sterling added: "If football for me is not at a certain level I am not really the happiest. If I want my happiness at a certain level I have to play football. I have to score goals and have fun."
