A member of the Russian Federation Council Committee for the Protection of State Sovereignty, Vladimir Poletaev, said that the EU's plans for the Arctic are an "attempt to interfere in the internal affairs of the countries represented in the region."
Russia Today website quoted Politev as saying on the committee’s account in Telegram today: “The European Union, as a political unit, does not have any rights to dictate to the countries represented in this region how they should behave in their territories. their interests are taken into account when making decisions.
He pointed out that the statements of the European Union about its rights to determine the common position of the countries of the Arctic can only be considered an attempt to violate the sovereignty of independent states.
He stressed that "Russia takes decisions on issues of its energy policy and ensuring security in its entire territory, including the Arctic region, independently, and the attempts of the European Union to impose any principles of unilateral behavior of countries in the region will not lead to any repercussions."
The European Commission previously published the European Union's strategy in the Arctic, which includes a request from Brussels to impose a complete ban on the extraction of coal, oil and gas in this region and adjacent areas, and also condemns Russia's actions aimed at strengthening its infrastructure to ensure its security there.
