Because Herbst recently collected and sold portraits of well-known personalities such as Prince Leopold of Bavaria, Jonas Kaufmann, District Administrator Stefan Frey, Starnberg's Mayor Patrick Janik and Green District Councilor Martina Neubauer for its palliative care unit.

Starnberg - "It's a sensational donation and you have thought of exactly the right area," said Wernher Weigert, managing director of the Friends of the Starnberg Clinic, exuberantly thanking Indi Herbst. The Starnberg-based portrait artist recently presented Weigert and Dr. Wolfgang Schweiger, lead physician in palliative medicine at the clinic, and his palliative team.

Under the title “Universe, we live - a homage to life”, the 46-year-old had already plotted a total of 50 familiar faces in front of her camera in 2019. “I wanted to exhibit the portraits last year,” said Herbst, but shortly before the vernissage, the corona pandemic thwarted her plans. At the beginning of September of this year she was finally able to catch up on the exhibition (we reported). "All portraits were secret up to then, and those portrayed did not know their pictures either," says Indi Herbst, who, like her make-up artist, worked on this project without a fee - in favor of the palliative care unit. “Everyone could buy their portrait for 500 euros and about a third did that. The rest of the sum came together purely through donations ",the artist is happy about the high sum achieved.

Schweiger, Professor Dr. Florian Krötz, chief physician at the Medical Clinic at the Starnberg Clinic, and the palliative care team are currently thinking. “In any case, we will buy a third pain pump and then possibly invest in the living area with the kitchenette,” Schweiger reveals the first details. In 2006, the palliative care unit was launched on the internal medicine ward B3 and comprises six beds, divided into nicely furnished single or two-bed rooms, some with a balcony and mountain view. "In a pleasant atmosphere, patients, relatives and visitors can have conversations in peace, prepare their favorite food and simply spend time together," says Schweiger and emphasizes: "Our efforts are based on the hopes of the patient,Spending days worth living in, not having to suffer and feeling the closeness of someone who is there for him to the end. ”Around 200 patients are admitted to the palliative care unit every year and are experienced here by Schweiger and his team around Lisa Weiler, Nursing Director Staff B3, in the course of her terminal illness relief. A good half of the patients can leave the palliative care unit - either back home, in a nursing home or in a hospice. “Around 120 patients die here every year,” explains Schweiger.relief in the course of her terminal illness. Supporting this commitment was very important to Indi Herbst: “I am very happy that I can help!” In the course of her charity campaign, she also noticed how important it is to inform people about the palliative care unit.

“I've often been asked what exactly is behind it.” And so the fundraising campaign is also a bit of an education for the population.
