The leaders of the SPD, Greens and FDP agree - all three parties want to start joint negotiations to form a traffic light coalition. With the Greens and Liberals, however, there is still one hurdle.

The traffic light becomes possible: SPD, Greens and the FDP want to enter into common coalition talks.

This was announced by the parties after their last exploratory talks in Berlin.

Previously, the top of all three parties had withdrawn again for individual consultations.

The parties had already met three times for exploratory talks since the federal election.

In contrast to non-binding explorations, those involved in coalition negotiations are already focusing on a common government.

However, the coalition negotiations have not yet been confirmed: A small party congress with the Greens would decide on the start of the talks, which is supposed to meet on Sunday.

The FDP would consult party bodies.

Such a step would not be necessary with the SPD, where an okay from the party executive is sufficient.
