The White House made the announcement this Friday, October 15. The restrictions had been in effect since March 2020. Here are the new access formalities for French tourists.

It's official. A few weeks after announcing a reopening of borders to travelers vaccinated "in November", the White House has just specified the date: it will be Monday, November 8, 2021. From that date, some international travelers will again be able to travel to United States but will, in addition to presenting proof of vaccination against Covid-19, be tested in the three days before their trip and wear a mask. These are the 26 European countries of the Schengen area, including France, Germany, Italy, Spain, Switzerland and Greece, as well as Great Britain, Ireland, China, India, South Africa, Iran and Brazil. The White House has still not specified in theimmediately what vaccines would make it possible to enter American soil.

"Good news for businesses"

According to European Commissioner Thierry Breton, responsible for coordinating the supply of the European Union with anti-Covid vaccines,

"this concerns all people vaccinated with vaccines that are recognized by the FDA",

the American drug agency , those of Pfizer / BioNTech, Moderna and Johnson & Johnson (Janssen). The serum of the Anglo-Swedish pharmaceutical group AstraZeneca and the Russian and Chinese vaccines would thus be excluded. Thierry Breton however indicated that the American authorities would examine the possibility of lifting the restrictions for Europeans vaccinated with AstraZeneca. Jeff Zients

"told me that for other vaccines, for AstraZeneca in particular, it was their health agency that was going to decide, but he seemed tobe positive and optimistic ”,

he told AFP.

Washington is therefore lifting restrictions that since March 2020 concerned travelers from the European Union, the United Kingdom, or China, and then applying later to India or Brazil.
