During a turning maneuver, a truck driver in Fulda damaged a sandstone wall of the Episcopal Vicariate General.
A stone weighing around 100 kilograms had come loose and crashed onto the road, the police said.
Instead of inspecting the damage, the man illegally left the scene of the accident on Thursday evening.
Fulda - Shortly afterwards, officials found his truck about 25 kilometers from the scene of the accident.
It was initially unclear whether the driver had noticed the damage and intentionally left the scene.
The repair of the sandstone alone is estimated to cost 15,000 euros.
There were initially delays in traffic around the vicariate.
