The topic of mountain biking should finally get going. The ATS steering concept has now been discussed in the Wiesse municipal council. The trigger was the community's new image film.

The topic of mountain biking should finally get going.

The ATS steering concept has now been discussed in the Wiesse municipal council.

The trigger was the community's new image film.

Bad Wiessee

- The short video of the community - already clicked on YouTube thousands of times - caused quite a stir. In two sequences you can see mountain bikers riding across a meadow and a forest with roots at the Holzer Alm. Some did not like it - and yet the group of mountain bikers who like to be on the trails “cannot be neglected”, as Tim Coldewey from the municipal company Alpenregion Tegernsee Schliersee (ATS) made clear on Thursday evening (October 14th) in the Wiesse municipal council . Mayor Robert Kühn (SPD) had invited him after the discussion about the mountain bike film scenes had boiled up. It became clear at the meeting that the ATS has a concept up its sleeve. The task now is to quickly put it into practice.

One or two paths for mountain bikers should be designated per community

The district, Coldewey emphasizes, does not want to become a downhill Eldorado and compete with bike parks like in Saalbach Hinterglemm.

But the specially founded steering group wants to create an offer for the local scene: One or two existing paths per district community that are already used by mountain bikers should - if suitable - be designated as trails for cyclists.

The goal, according to Coldewey: "Mountain bikers should ride where it is most compatible with nature." Keyword: positive steering.

ATS first wants to get the property owners on board

ATS is currently in the process of holding talks with individual property owners.

Because without their consent, Coldewey emphasized, it would not work.

For the landowners, the issue of liability is a much-cited bogeyman.

Who pays if something happens to the cyclists on my property?

The ATS representative gave the all-clear: accidents are covered by municipal liability insurance.

Farmers express themselves critically in discussions in the local council

CSU councilor Georg Erlacher, himself a forest owner, did not keep his worries behind the mountain. There are always a few nature users - hikers and mountain bikers - who would step out of line. How does the ATS intend to prevent the marked paths from becoming too monotonous at some point and the cyclists looking for new branches through forests and meadows, Erlacher asked. Member of the parliamentary group and farmer Alois Fichtner became even clearer: In search of the kick, some "idiots" would rush back and forth through the undergrowth and sometimes even in the middle of the night. “You won't get that under control,” he prophesied. Coldewey disagreed. We know from other regions that cyclists stay on the designated trails if they are only attractive enough. “It's a matter of design and communication,” he affirmed.

Wolf-Hagen Böttger (Greens) pushed for the ATS plans to be implemented as quickly as possible.

He hoped that it would not take years to get the situation under control with the help of the concept.

And Bernd Kuntze-Fechner (SPD) also found it positive that the topic of mountain biking was finally being tackled in concrete terms.

"It's a good idea to create an offer here," he said.

Mayor takes a position on the controversial corporate film and apologizes

The controversial image film of Bad Wiessee did not play the main role at the meeting, but the makers around Mayor Kühn did not get away with it completely.

"Something like this shouldn't happen again," said Kurt Sareiter (CSU), referring to the anger that the strip had caused.

He demanded that in future such film projects be submitted to the municipal council before they are published.

The question of whether the two mountain bike scenes will be deleted was not discussed further that evening.

But Kühn also felt compelled to clarify.

He apologized to the farmers and emphasized: The film was never intended to create the impression that “you can do what you want in nature”.

Kühn: "That shouldn't be a disregard for your work."
