It's been a year since Olivio Gomes was shot dead by a police officer in Poissy.

This 28-year-old man was shot three times while in a car, a few meters from his home on rue Charles-de-Foucauld.

According to the policeman's version, he tried to run over it with his vehicle while restarting.

This has since been called into question by ballistic analysis and testimonies.

The official was indicted for intentional manslaughter and was reassigned.

He is no longer in the field.

His brother, Léonel Gomes, is organizing a march in his memory this Sunday.

The procession will leave from the Val d'Argenteuil station.

This is where Olivio grew up - he had only lived in Poissy for two years - and where his family still lives.

"It's really to pay tribute to him and to pass certain messages", explains his little brother.

He intends to assert the innocence of Olivio and demand more severity with regard to the alleged murderer.

“If I had killed a policeman, I would be in detention.

He is always free, ”he adds.

Leonel remembers that grim morning of October 17, 2020. “It was his wife who called home.

My father dropped out.

I was going down, I heard screaming.

My father tells me that they shot Olivio, ”he says.

The widow explains over the phone that she had had a visit from the police to inform her of the death.

"She tells me that Olivio tried to run over a policeman and that he shot him," he adds.

Contradictory versions

For a while, only the policeman's version is mentioned.

It reports a chase between Paris and Poissy.

Olivio Gomes would have driven on the ring road swerving when a crew of the anti-crime squad (Bac) decided to carry out a check.

The driver allegedly refused to obey and drove at full speed on the A13 before stopping at Poissy, in the Beauregard district.

He would then have run into one of the police officers.

The latter allegedly told him to stop before firing three bullets.

“Automatically, we believe in it.

We think it really happened like that.

I was like: why did you do that?

», Confides Leonel Gomes.

After the shots, the other two passengers in the car were taken into custody.

They are Oualid, a childhood friend of Olivio Gomes who also lives in Poissy, and Samy.

“My brother didn't really know him.

He lives in Carrières-sous-Poissy, so my brother was going to drop him off on the way, ”he explains.

"There has never been a chase"

On leaving custody, Oualid delivers a completely different version from that reported by the police and the press. "It's day and night," sums up Léonel Gomes. He told us that there has never been a chase. That evening Olivio and his passengers had left for dinner in Paris for the last time before the curfew was instituted. They had dropped off Amadou, the fourth passenger at Saint-Lazare station before heading for Yvelines.

“They arrive on the ring road and there they see that a car is following them,” indicates Leonel Gomes.

They don't know it's the police.

It was once on the A13 that they put the flashing light.

»The car is at the level of that of Olivio Gomes.

“There, the police told them he was going out on the next exit.

They got behind him.

There were zero prosecutions, ”he adds.

The driver drives his car to the bottom of his house.

Without a license, he knew he couldn't get back behind the wheel after being stopped by the police.

He wished his wife could take the vehicle the next day.

"All the elements are in our favor"

“My brother pulls up and the police stop next door, blocking his door, there is even a little shock.

My brother couldn't go out, ”he emphasizes.

The police were said to have got out of their car immediately.

Whoever was in the backseat would have pulled out his gun and pointed it at the driver.

“He shouts: get out of the vehicle.

My brother told him he couldn't.

So he goes first to move forward slightly.

And there, there are three shots, ”continues Lénoel Gomes.

“My brother came forward because the police told him to come out,” he insisted. The car continues to advance for a few meters then enters a car. The police intervene. “They don't take my brother out right away. They prefer to call Oualid and Samy first. I think they might have been able to save his life then, ”he said.

Ballistic expertise showed that the shooter was not threatened by the vehicle. “The shots came from the side and slightly behind him,” emphasizes Leonel Gomes. The windshield is intact, the driver's side window was broken. The expertise was able to highlight the low speed of the vehicle at this precise moment. "When we have all the elements of this file, there is no difficulty," said Pape Ndiogou Mbaye, counsel for the Gomes family. All the elements are in our favor. He believes that the investigation has progressed quickly so far but that it will still take time to see it succeed. Asked, the prosecution was not able to respond to our requests, as the case is under investigation.

Gathering this Sunday, October 17, 2021, at 1 p.m., Val d'Argenteuil station.

End of the route at the Parc du cerisier.
