Three people were killed and seven injured in an earthquake on the tourist island of Bali on Saturday, the disaster management agency said.

The 4.8 magnitude earthquake struck at a relatively shallow depth of 10 km northeast of the town of Banjar Wanasari.

Shallow earthquakes generally cause more damage than those that occur far from the surface.

Two people died when the earthquake caused a landslide that buried their home in the Bangli area.

Another person was killed in the port city of Karangasem, authorities said.

The death toll should not increase, they said.
