The British government announced that it is reviewing all security measures taken to protect members of Parliament, after the killing of MP David Amis yesterday.
And British media quoted British Home Secretary Priti Patel as saying today, “It is our duty to defend and protect all members of Parliament, and we want to have an open society,” adding, “We are drawing on lessons and now reviewing all necessary security measures to protect our MPs so that we can secure the safety and security of 600 MPs wherever they go.” .
Patel's comments came as a Conservative MP called for a temporary halt to face-to-face meetings between parliamentarians and their constituents in the wake of Ames' killing.
Amis, a 69-year-old Conservative MP, was stabbed several times yesterday during a rally in his constituency in Les-en-Seas, in the southeast of the country.
