Even so, the funding was insufficient for some.

Schwerin (dpa / mv) - The state government supported the cultural industry in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania in the corona pandemic with millions of euros in payments. Around 6.5 million euros of the 20 million euros MV protection fund for culture have already been paid out, according to the Ministry of Education, Science and Culture. In addition, the state had made special arrangements to ensure that cultural funding was maintained during the crisis.

Of the eight funding lines combined in the MV Protection Fund, the largest part, around 2.8 million euros, was paid out to freelance artists through so-called bridging grants.

A total of 1385 applications were therefore approved.

According to the Service Center Culture - which advises cultural workers in the state - this assistance was very practical and unbureaucratic, but the volume for the individual sponsored was only a drop in the ocean, at 2,000 euros each.

The artists criticized the fact that in other federal states a fictitious entrepreneur's wage was granted.

SPD parliamentary group calls for a hearing on the shortage of skilled workers in daycare centers

The SPD parliamentary group has called for an expert hearing in the Hessian state parliament on the shortage of skilled workers in daycare centers.

"Necessary steps" of a personnel and qualification offensive should be discussed with all actors involved, said Lisa Gnadl, spokeswoman for family policy, on Thursday in Wiesbaden.

There are major deficits in childcare and early childhood education in Hesse, she criticized.

According to the service center, numerous artists also had to apply for unemployment benefit II in the pandemic, and there are also many reports of changes to other professions.

It is still problematic that the funding logic in the cultural sector is often aimed at non-profit making and so artists cannot be funded directly.

According to the ministry, some of the aid was also used to raise own contributions in order to receive federal funding. The spokesman for the Culture Service Center praised this possibility. Overall, the ministry was very satisfied: "The goal we have successfully pursued was and is to support the cultural sector quickly and comprehensively in the life-threatening time of the pandemic," it said. This goal has so far been achieved.

The Association of Independent Theaters agrees with the Ministry.

None of the free theaters in the northeast had to close, said a spokeswoman.

Among other things, its members have benefited from the fact that they are very mobile.

They were also allowed to perform in schools and daycare centers when other public events were no longer possible.

Many non-profit organizations, which are mainly run by volunteers, also came through the crisis well, according to the information from the Kultur Service Center.

However, they would have had the opportunity to consciously shut down their activities and go into "hibernation".

This is not open to self-employed individuals.
