After the fatal assassination attempt on the British Torry MP David Amess, Labor Party and Liberal Democrats do not want to run candidates for the by-elections in Southend West.
This is reported by several British media.
Labor MP Lord Pendry said one should not run to "honor" Amess.
"This is an opportunity to see the opposition leader and the prime minister together, and it shows that our democracy goes beyond such things everywhere," he told the PA news agency.
"I think we should say that whoever the Conservatives put up is their seat because it was taken away from them, so they should get it back." So all major parties should stand aside in the interests of democracy and the democratic way of life step.
According to the reports, the parties believed that a precedent had been set when all major opposition parties failed to nominate candidates for the subsequent by-elections in Batley and Spen after the murder of Jo Cox in 2016.
Southend West has been Conservative since it was founded in 1950.
In 2019, David Amess was elected with around 59 percent of the vote.
