The name Jais is well known in Olching - mainly because of Engelbert Jais' butcher's shop, which has a branch there.

Son-in-law Thomas Jais also worked there.

But now he's saddling up.

He literally got into the dog.

Olching

- The saying “got on the dog” actually means that someone has gotten into bad circumstances. In popular parlance, however, it is also used jokingly and in a positive sense for dog lovers. And that fully applies to Thomas Jais. “I grew up with dogs,” says the 43-year-old. “My grandparents and parents already had dogs.” And he himself has recently become the proud owner of a few weeks old Red Fox Labrador named Anne.

Now Jais, who lives in Luttenwang, is turning his hobby dog into a profession. On October 22nd, he opened a shop of the dog outfitter Dogstyler on Hauptstrasse in Olching, where high-quality dog accessories were sold. “I just had to do something different and independent,” says Jais. A professional restlessness that runs through his life.

Luttenwanger actually started out as a trained carpenter.

After completing his military service, he was a professional soldier - for 13 years on missions in 1990 and 2001 in Kosovo.

During this time, Jais retrained to become an IT system electronics technician.

But it didn't stop there either.

After he had married into the Jais family, the next retraining was due: Father-in-law Engelbert trained him as a butcher.

The retrainer graduated in 2010 as the best of his year.

And now the carpenter / soldier / IT electronics technician / butcher equips dogs.

Selling fun

“I've been playing with the idea of self-employment for a year and a half,” says Jais.

When looking for a new professional challenge, the last job in the butcher's shop also played a role.

Because during this time Jais realized: "I enjoy selling." With this in mind, he started looking for an offer that was not yet available in Olching - and found what he was looking for in high-quality dog accessories.

Jais came across Dogstyler about a year ago.

There are now numerous shops in the district that offer pet accessories.

In Jais' new shop, however, only dog accessories are available - and not off the shelf.

For example, safety systems for cars are completely made to measure.

Jais will be advised on this in his shop in the future, after which the goods will be manufactured by Dogstyler.

There are of course accessories such as collars and dog leashes to style the dog.

Jais believes this has opened a market niche across the county.

The next Dogstyler store is in Nuremberg.

Shop on the main street

Jais describes it as a stroke of luck that he has found a shop in Olching directly on the main street.

“I had also looked at other shops, including in Germering.” But he could only have rented this space on a temporary basis.

A customer in the butcher told him about the shop on the main street.

Jais quickly came to an agreement with the owner.

“That was pure luck,” says Jais - especially since the size of the shop with almost 200 square meters of retail space is ideal.

And what does the family say about the reorientation of the son-in-law?

"She supports me wherever possible and shows a lot of understanding that I want to try something new again." Especially since he is not out of the world and in an emergency he is quick to the butcher's.

Red Fox Labrador Anne has to stay out there, of course.

In contrast, the young dog has a regular seat in the new shop.
