In Geretsried, the fairy tale week thrilled many children and senior citizens: there were events and readings throughout the city.

Geretsried - "Once upon a time ..." This is how most fairy tales begin, and they end with "And if you haven't died, then you are still alive today" - regardless of whether it is in Germany, in the Arab world, in France or China.

“Everyone knows it,” says Hannah Schreyer from the Active Integration Team of the sponsoring association for youth and social work in Geretsried.

“Fairy tales are therefore predestined for an intercultural week.” Every year this has a different motto.

Last year films from different countries and cultures were shown, this year fairy tales were told.

Because of the corona pandemic, events could only be held in smaller groups this time, but that didn't detract from the joy.

Together with storyteller Christa Albrecht, the first stop was the Oberlandwerkstätte in Geretsried.

"The enthusiasm was great," reports Schreyer.

"In the first workshop there were those who dared, in the second there were those who hadn't dared before - and in the third there was suddenly everyone."

Geretsried: Seniors listen to stories, children participate in the storytelling

The next stations were the retirement homes in Schwaigwall and Caritas in Geretsried.

Here narrator Ursula Weber took her audience on a journey through numerous distant countries around the world.

“Many who came from other cultures themselves were really moved to hear fairy tales from their old homeland,” says Schreyer.

And: There are many fairy tales, albeit in a slightly modified form, in numerous languages - “for example the story of beet pulling”.

Here a grandfather is planting a beet in the garden, but cannot pull it out by himself and calls all his household, including mice, together to be able to harvest the vegetables.

TVJA Geretsried and Integration aktiv organize a series of events

A princess with a storybook was a guest at the Geretsried city library on four different dates.

The Russian fairy tale of "Tsar Saltan, his son, the famous warrior Prince Gwidon Saltanowitsch, and the beautiful swan princess" was performed as a puppet show by Alexander Pushkin in the Stein Quartierstreff.

One who acted as a player alongside the narrator was nine-year-old Nadja Holzer.

“It's a beautiful story,” she says.

And?

Had stage fright?

"Nope," it comes back like a shot from a pistol.

“Nobody saw me as a puppeteer.

And I'm also in the theater group at my school in Münsing.

I learned something there. "
