Kempten - Who is the screaming woman on the poster of the 21st Kempten dance autumn?

The artistic director Richard Klug solves the riddle.

Shaved skull, rolled eyes, a screaming, wide open mouth: the photo of this year's Kempten dance autumn is disturbing.

Richard Klug, founder and artistic director of the international dance festival, confirms: “I've been asked about it many times.

But for me it fits perfectly - it shows how the cultural workers are doing in times of Corona.

And at the same time it expresses liberation: Get out of the gagged, the constriction! "

It is the Japanese artist Izumi Ose who screams so impressively at the viewer.

She takes part in the performance "The (love) Song Book", which premieres on Monday evening at the dance festival.

A piece that is very close to Klug's heart, also because it was created - supported by the cultural office of the city of Kempten and the BSG-Allgäu - as part of the Artist.in.Residence.Project 2021 carried out by the Kari.Tanzhaus.

The choreography was created by Ralf Jaroschinski, Tetsuya Hori is responsible for the music.

“Not easy fare,” admits Klug, but in the end he wants the festival to show contemporary dance in its entirety.

The “Odido Dance Company” from Nigeria is opening the autumn dance this Saturday evening with two pieces that will be performed in Germany for the first time.

The Africans symbolize the roots of the dance for Klug.

Then on Monday the challenging avant-garde with the German-Japanese production "The (love) Song Book".

The contribution “Mawu” with the Spanish ensemble Cia.

Aina Lanas promises harmonious and sensual images on the subject of femininity on Thursday, while the Italian Sara Angius promises a theatrical experience on Friday with the combination of dance and puppet play.

It will be neoclassical on Saturday when the Israeli "Kamea Dance Company" performs to the sounds of Bach.

In addition to the international professionals, the youngsters as well as semi-professional and professional dancers from the region show their skills.

Klug is certain: “There is something for everyone.” This is important to him, because he wants more young audiences to find their way to the theater and to art.

3G and distance rules at Tanzherbst

Advance ticket sales have gotten off to a good start, and experience has shown that many still decide spontaneously to attend a performance.

Due to the latest Corona guidelines, organizers can now offer 2G or 3G + for their events.

At Tanzherbst, however, the 3G solution will remain so that people who have already bought tickets under different conditions do not have to refrain from visiting due to changed rules.

“We also plan in such a way that there is a free space next to each group of visitors.

This is not required by law, but we want to ensure that the audience can keep a sufficient distance inside. "

Despite the shortage of vaccines: all international artists can enter

With all the measures that are still necessary, Klug is delighted that the festival can actually take place as planned.

Not a matter of course in Corona times, especially since international artists can only enter if they are vaccinated.

Especially with the Nigerian dance ensemble this was a tremendous match due to the shortage of vaccines in their homeland.

But it is now clear: everyone involved is arriving and the Kempten audience can look forward to varied performances.

The autumn dance is not just meant to be watched: The program is rounded off by a wide range of workshops.

Incidentally, the workshops are not only designed for ambitious dancers or future professionals - everyone is invited to try them out!
