Union Chancellor candidate Armin Laschet has expressed skepticism about a member survey to elect a new CDU federal chairman.
A federal party congress is “still a very good tool for mapping the breadth of the party,” said the party leader on Saturday at the Junge Union's Germany Day in Münster.
One should not pretend that federal party conferences with more than 1000 delegates decided to bypass the grassroots.
Münster - "I'm not against it in principle," said Laschet on the question of the member survey.
“We can do that.” But it should also be recognized that it is easier to get more young people and women into board positions in consensus discussions than in member surveys.

The North Rhine-Westphalian Transport Minister Hendrik Wüst has called on the CDU to develop more of its own profile.
"We have to trust ourselves again to not only follow the zeitgeist, but also to shape it," said Wüst on Saturday at the state delegates' meeting of the SME and Economic Union of North Rhine-Westphalia in Rheine.

Günther: Not all of them pulled together in the election campaign
Prime Minister Daniel Günther (CDU) complained at the Schleswig-Holstein Day of the Junge Union about the lack of cohesion in the election campaign.
Of course, Armin Laschet was not a reason why people came to the CDU in the election campaign, said Günther on Saturday in Meldorf.
Pretty much everything went wrong in the election campaign that could go wrong.

Fegebank: Jamaica "do not give up lightly"
Hamburg's Second Mayor Katharina Fegebank (Greens) has warned her party not to commit to the SPD as a government partner at an early stage.
"We should know very well where we want to go in these negotiations," said Fegebank of the newspaper "Die Welt".
It is important not to forget that there are alternatives.
Jamaica is “definitely still an option.

Laschet appealed to the Union that it had to learn to stand together again if the attacks from outside were tougher.
Such struggles as the recent Bundestag election campaign can "only get through if you show solidarity with one another and are a fighting force".
In any case, more unity is a lesson from the poor Bundestag election result.
Laschet told the delegates that it was “a legend” that Wolfgang Schäuble had virtually decided who should become the Union’s candidate for chancellor.
That is "gross nonsense".
It was a weakness of the Union and a weakening in the election campaign that the media were more or less informed about the live ticker from board meetings.
"As long as I am CDU chairman, there is a ban on cell phones," Laschet said of the meeting rules.
