Six people were injured in a fire in a retirement home in Griesheim (Darmstadt-Dieburg district).
The fire broke out in the room of a 65-year-old resident on Saturday morning, the police said.
The man suffered burn injuries to his arm and severe smoke inhalation.
Two residents, aged 86 and 89, were also seriously injured by inhaling smoke gases, according to police.
Griesheim - A 109-year-old resident fell when leaving the house and suffered a head wound and smoke poisoning.
Two other residents were slightly injured by the smoke.

A person died in a room fire in an apartment building in Bad Salzuflen (Lippe district).
The police were initially unable to provide more detailed information about the victim and the cause of the fire on Sunday.
"The person has not yet been identified," said a spokesman.

According to the police, the other residents were able to leave the retirement home in good time and were unharmed.
After a short time, the emergency services would have extinguished the fire.
The 65-year-old's room is no longer habitable as a result of the fire, and parts of the hallway were also damaged.
