A 34-year-old tried to rob a supermarket in Klingenthal on Thursday evening - but failed because of employees and customers.
The man, masked with a motorcycle helmet, threatened a cashier with a weapon and asked her to give him money from the cash register, as the Saxon police announced on Friday.
Instead, the 59-year-old loudly informed the other customers in the shop in the Vogtland district about the attack and took cover herself.
Klingenthal - Among the customers was a federal police officer who overpowered the suspect and fixed him with the help of the supermarket employees.
The weapon turned out to be a blank gun.
The 34-year-old tested positive for drugs and spent one night at the police station.
He has to answer for the attempt of heavy robbery and extortion and should be brought before a judge on Friday.
