The Lebanese Army Command announced the arrest and interrogation of a soldier after he appeared in a video clip on social media firing at protesters in the Tayouneh area of Beirut the day before yesterday, which resulted in seven casualties and dozens of injuries.

The command said in a statement tonight: “Video clips spread on social media showing a Lebanese soldier firing at protesters during the confrontations that erupted two days ago in the Tayouneh area in Beirut,” explaining that the shooter is “under investigation under the supervision of the competent judiciary.”

For its part, security sources announced to the Lebanese Al-Manar TV that the number of people arrested in connection with the Tayouneh events has reached 20, stressing that the investigations are focused on the identities of the planners and perpetrators, who were brought from outside the region to participate in these events.

The sources said that "surveillance cameras showed preparations for the attack on those heading to participate in the demonstration in front of the Palace of Justice, which indicates a prepared ambush," noting that the map of the start of the Tayouneh events "began to become clear."

Yesterday, the Lebanese security services arrested 19 armed men who were proven to be involved in the armed attack on protesters in the Tayouneh area of Beirut.
