The Higher Institute of Cinema begins its first step by examining its applicants

About 300 students wishing to join the Higher Institute of Cinematic Sciences took the written exam today at the Faculty of Mass Communication at Damascus University, as the first step towards the start of the 2021-2022 school year at the institute.

The Minister of Culture, Dr. Lubana Mushawah, stressed in a statement to SANA’s delegate during an inspection tour that she conducted on the reality of the examination process, accompanied by the Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Dr. Bassam Ibrahim, and the President of Damascus University, Dr. Muhammad Yasar Abdeen, the importance of the opening of the Higher Institute of Cinema in developing the cultural movement in general and the artistic in particular in Syria Qualifying a new generation of filmmakers to advance the reality of cinema and produce more important films to reach the ranks of international cinema, so that the Syrian film producer contributes to supporting the national economy.

In a similar statement, the Dean of the Higher Institute of Cinema, director Basil Al-Khatib, said: Today we are conducting the first phase of accepting students at the Institute in its two departments of film directing, script and film criticism. He considered that the creation of an institute specialized in cinematic arts was in line with the great development of cinema and drama.

Regarding the terms of affiliation for this year, Al-Khatib explained that they were characterized by flexibility and did not restrict students to the age condition to allow the largest possible number of people to apply for the written exam, explaining that the teaching staff is one of the national competencies and aspires in the coming years to cooperate with Arab and foreign specialists with the aim of transferring their expertise and experiences to the students to provide them with knowledge Richer and broader about cinematic science.

Among the students applying for the written exam, Hassan Yousef Fakhor spoke about the role of Syrian youth in participating in the advancement of the reality of Syrian cinema to the best and reaching the world, expressing his passion for the experience of cinematography.

Anas Mahmoud, a graduate of the Faculty of Pharmacy, pointed out that the questions moved between the history of Syrian and international literature. He also saw that the institute's importance lies in encouraging the film industry to deliver messages to society in the language of the image that simulates the new generation of development and technology to build a pioneering cinematic culture.

Last February, Law No. 6 of 2021 was issued to establish the Higher Institute of Cinematic Arts, with the aim of graduating specialists in cinematic arts, training and qualification in various fields of cinematic art in order to achieve an artistic renaissance in these fields.

It is noteworthy that this institute is the first in Syria and the second in the Arab world after the Higher Institute of Cinema in Egypt.
