Maisach needs a third mayor again.

The parliamentary groups in the local council agree on this.

But who will take over the post that has been vacant for a year?

In any case, the Free Voters are getting into position.

Maisach -

There are traditionally two deputy mayors in Maisach.

Hans Seidl (CSU), head of the town hall since 2008, has been represented by Roland Müller (CSU) for many years and to this day.

Müller was already vice-president of the previous mayor Gerhard Landgraf (FW) in the last term of office.

The second deputy was Waltraut Wellenstein (SPD) from 2008 to 2020.

Peter Aust (SPD) then took over their post for the Social Democrats - the third mayor traditionally came from the largest district of Gernlinden.

Aust resigned from his post after six months: the area of work of the forest manager at the municipal forest administration in Munich had been expanded - and he no longer had time for additional voluntary work.

So the post has been vacant since November 2020. Because there were fewer appointments due to the pandemic, Seidl was able to manage everything well with a deputy. But now, according to CSU parliamentary group spokesman Christian Kemether, there is a lot more going on again. He therefore emphasizes: "In order to relieve the two of them and in view of the size and tasks of Maisach, it will be urgently necessary to have a second deputy."

Free voters and Greens have often asked the local council when they want to devote themselves to this topic.

"Of course we need a third mayor," says Gottfried Obermair (FW).

And because his grouping is the second largest faction in the local council, the post belongs to the free voters.

Of course, there is no obligation to regulate the allocation according to size.

"But I have the hope that the office will go to us."

Already in the constituent meeting of the current municipal council in May 2020, the FW was excited about the filling of the representative positions.

At that time they wanted to provide the vice-president and had newcomer Georg Hirschvogel compete against Müller.

Müller won with 14:11 votes.

Greens are also pushing for the post to be filled

In general, Obermair says that the deputy of the community chief is not about party issues and shouldn't be: "There has to be trust to work together." In the Western Alliance, for example, he works well with Seidl. Then why shouldn't that also work in the town hall? Obermair, who was third mayor from 2002 to 2008, admits that his parliamentary group would also have other candidates if Seidl could only imagine working with another free voter.

The Greens are also pushing for the post to be filled: Because the incumbent and vice-president are from the CSU, another party at the top is needed to achieve a democratic balance, says Greens parliamentary spokeswoman Barbara Helmers.

In their eyes, the FW have the first right of access: "We Greens have five seats, the Free Voters have six seats." Nevertheless, their party also wants to nominate a candidate.

In 2020, the Greens sought the post of third mayor - with the candidate Christine Wunderl, who is no longer on the local council for professional reasons.

The vote at that time was 14:11 for Aust.

For Waltraut Wellenstein (SPD) there is no question that the post should be filled: “As the third mayor, I always had enough to do.” But she is no longer available.

Seidl emphasizes that the coordination with Vice Müller works perfectly: "But not because we are in the same party, but because there is trustful cooperation."
