Stingray holds and immediately regrets the decision (REDDIT)

So true, the round California stingray (a type of seal or stingray from the millet family in its full name) is usually a tiny and not dangerous creature, its tail is relatively short and although it contains venom it is not harmful to humans - though their bites, like those of jellyfish are painful.

Even very painful.

The pain is so strong that it is able to knock a person off his feet.

This is exactly what happened to a not particularly smart guy who picked up a living Stingray with his hands, brought him close to his face and snatched a bite from him that made him scream in agony on the floor.

In the viral video posted on Reddit, the guy is seen lifting the animal in his hands for the purpose of documenting him on camera and getting a strong bite from his tail.

The guy (who in the British SUN declared that he could rightly be called an "idiot") immediately throws him back into the water, falls to the floor and starts writhing in pain and screaming.

His friend the photographer asks him anxiously: "Did he bite you? Did he sting you?"

But the man was unable to answer the question and continued to scream in pain.

The video garnered more than 34,000 votes and about 1,700 responses, with the most popular being written: "I like that the stingray waited patiently until the guy finished with his introduction before stealing the show."

The round stingrays are just one species out of more than 600 different beta and it is not considered particularly dangerous, although the pain from the bite can last for whole days.

Every year, hundreds of bathers on the shores of Southern California are accidentally stung by the round stingrays as they accidentally step on them, however very few are stung when they hold them in their hands to shoot a video.
