Düsseldorf - After a major fight in Düsseldorf's old town with a critically injured person, the alleged perpetrator is still on the run. The as yet unknown attacker attacked a 19-year-old with a glass bottle on Saturday night so severely that he had to undergo emergency surgery that night. He was in acute danger of death, but is currently stable, said a police spokesman on Sunday. No information can yet be given about the background and the motive. A homicide squad is investigating suspicion of an attempted homicide.
According to the investigators, witnesses had observed a fight between two groups on Burgplatz at around 1:45 a.m. and had also become aware of the injured young man lying on the ground.
The perpetrator fled in an unknown direction.
How many people were involved in the dispute has yet to be determined, the spokesman said on Sunday.
There were no further evidence of witnesses.
