Every October 24th is International Gibbon Day, and there are different gibbons as themed activities around the world.

Gibbon and Hong Kong seem to be separated, but in fact, Hong Kong also plays an important role in the conservation of gibbons.

The Kadoorie Farm and Botanic Garden will hold an exhibition on the conservation of gibbons from the forest in Wan Chai, featuring a 3-meter-high gibbons art installation.

When attending the event today (17th), Secretary of the Environment Huang Jinxing said that as early as 2003, he contacted colleagues from Kadoorie Farm and learned that the farm was involved in conservation activities on Hainan Island and China. Today, 18 years later, the number of Hainan gibbons has more than doubled. As of now 35, I hope that citizens and organizations can see hope and prospects and support biodiversity.

The Kadoorie Farm and Botanic Garden will host an exhibition on the conservation of gibbons, where the public can learn about gibbons by visiting the tropical rainforest research base built in the busy city.

At the same time, you can also understand how the conservation team in Hong Kong helps to rescue these endangered animals, and how humans can contribute to the protection of gibbons and their homes in their daily lives.

Although gibbons are master gymnastics in the Asian rainforest, their agility allows them to escape most predators.

However, the forests they inhabit have shrunk significantly due to the encroachment of urban, road and agricultural development.

According to the assessment of international experts, there are 20 species of gibbons all over the world facing the threat of extinction.

Huang Jinxing also mentioned that Hong Kong’s carbon emissions reduction is one of the best among major cities. The government’s latest policy address will continue to reduce carbon emissions, and plans to achieve carbon neutrality by 2050. It is hoped that citizens and organizations will further reduce waste and carbon emissions. glue.
