An earthquake measuring 5.1 on the Richter scale struck at dawn today, 93 km south of the island of Koshima, Japan.
Xinhua quoted the US Geological Survey as saying that the tremor struck at a depth of 29.03 km, and its epicenter was located at 29.3986 degrees north latitude and 130.6922 degrees east longitude.
Japan is located on the "Ring of Fire" in the Pacific Ocean, where active earthquakes and volcanoes are recorded, and it extends across Southeast Asia and the Pacific Basin.
