The ninety-year-old mother-in-law couldn't walk away and was crushed by the falling bricks and hurt her feet.

The firefighters arrived at the scene and broke into the house to rescue the mother-in-law. Fortunately, she was sober and was sent to the hospital by ambulancemen for treatment.


The collapsed old village house is located at No. 89 Xinwei, Xia Village, Tianxia Road, diagonally across from the Shihong Study Room at No. 124.

The incident occurred at about 8:34 tonight. Sources on the scene said that the smallpox and outer wall of the village house that connected two village houses collapsed. The 96-year-old mother-in-law Liao could not walk away, her feet were crushed, her head and hands were crushed. The ministry was also injured and hurriedly called for help.

Other villagers heard the loud noises and calls for help, and rushed to call the police.

The ambulance arrived and rescued the injured mother-in-law and sent her to the Tin Shui Wai Hospital. Fortunately, her mother-in-law was carried on a stretcher bed and was awake when she was sent to the ambulance.

The police enclosed the scene for investigation and found that the area of ​​the collapsed roof and outer wall were about 10 meters by 4 meters and about 6 meters by 4 meters, respectively.

About 10 residents in the vicinity needed to be evacuated. The firefighting collapse search and rescue team was present to search for any other villagers trapped.

It is understood that the village head of Xinwei followed up the roof collapse of the old house at the scene, and believed that the mother-in-law involved was only slightly injured and no life threatened.

Yuen Long District Councillor Tang Jialiang also attended the scene. He asked the police to seal off the old village houses believed to be dangerous buildings. For the time being, other people would not be allowed to enter to avoid regenerating accidents.

The police said that at 8:34 pm on the 17th, they received a report from nearby residents that a village house collapsed in Xinwei, Xia Village, Tianxia Road, and someone called for help at the scene.

Upon receiving the report, the staff found that there was a collapsed ceiling and outer wall connecting two village houses on the site. The area was about 10 meters by 4 meters and about 6 meters by 4 meters, respectively.

The fire broke into the house to search and rescued a 96-year-old woman surnamed Liao who was crushed on her leg. She was soberly injured and sent to Tin Shui Wai Hospital for treatment.

About 10 residents were evacuated nearby.

The Shihong Study Room adjacent to the site was built in the 1910s and was identified as a third-level historical building on August 31, 2010.

In the early days, Shihong Study Room mainly provided Bubu Zhai teaching for the children of Xinwei in Ha Village, Yuen Long, and was gradually replaced by Yougong School in Xinsheng Village in the 1930s.

In the early days of the Japanese occupation (1941 to 1945), the study room became a shelter for Chinese refugees.

In the 1960s, the study room was converted into a kindergarten, and it is now the place for Tang's banquets and gatherings.
