July 2:

Corona-compliant welcome - British Prime Minister Boris Johnson welcomes Merkel to the Checkers estate.

He opened the subsequent press release with a small swipe.

In the course of Merkel's 22 visits to Great Britain in her 16 years as Chancellor, many things have changed.

He was grateful that at least the English national soccer team had won against the German one.

Royal visit - Merkel receives the Dutch King Willem-Alexander and his wife Máxima (not in the picture) in the Federal Chancellery.

What was talked about on the roof terrace remained a secret.

Willem-Alexander then simply said: He was aware that Germany was in a special year in view of the Bundestag election in September.

But even if the composition of the parliament changes, the interaction between the two neighboring countries will continue.

He has a great "desire for continuity".

July 22nd:

No time to lose - four minutes too early she is sitting behind the desk of the federal press conference in front of the big blue wall.

One could take that as a first indication of how seriously Angela Merkel takes her possibly last appearance at this point.

In the end, she will say of her annual summer press conference, "It's always a surprise and a pleasure too".

August 20:

Magnificent Alexander Hall in the Great Kremlin Palace - it is Merkel's 20th, some say 21st visit to Russia.

Kremlin chief Vladimir Putin presented her with a bouquet of roses when she greeted her.

But the flowers and friendliness in the state room cannot hide the fundamental difference between the two worldviews.

Merkel seems tense and stiff.
