A suspected animal abuse case occurred in Sheung Shui, and a cute white cat was almost starved to death!
The scene was in a tenement unit on Lianchang Street. It was rented by a man surnamed Li (33 years old). He was strangely missing a few days ago. The female owner surnamed Lu (51 years old) lost contact with Li for half a month and decided to visit the house last Monday (11th). After looking for him, he found strange smells and meows from the unit, suspecting that some cats were being treated improperly, so he called the police.
The police and firefighters arrived at the scene and found that there was a white cat in the house. There was not enough food and water. The kitten was thin and weak, dehydrated, and was taken away for inspection and treatment.
The animal crime police team of the Tai Po Police District took over the investigation and traced Lai's whereabouts. The day before yesterday (15th), he was arrested in Sham Shui Po, suspected of cruelty to animals.
The police emphasized that cruel treatment of animals is a serious crime. According to Article 3 of the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Ordinance, Chapter 169 of the Laws of Hong Kong, the maximum penalty for cruelty to animals is a fine of 200,000 yuan and imprisonment for 3 years.
The police urge all pet owners to arrange a proper living environment and adequate food for their pets.
If you need to leave your pet for a long time, you must make arrangements for the custody of the pet in advance.
