Residents of the Yemin Moshe neighborhood in Jerusalem this week hired a private security company, at a cost of thousands of shekels per resident.

This, following complaints from residents of the neighborhood in recent years about damage to the personal security of young people, who walk around the place, drink drunk, sexually harass and even attack and threaten the residents.

The Jerusalem neighborhood is one of the most prestigious in the city, with historic buildings, a flour mill and a view of the Old City walls.

The security guards from the "Ashdot Dogs" company, which the residents hired, are not armed but walk around with trained dogs, and this week one of the security guards called the police after acquitting a drunk man, a resident of East Jerusalem, with a weapon.

Police found out it was a gun-like tear gas canister, but residents fear it was only a matter of time before a more serious incident.

One resident said that a few weeks ago, a young man threatened him with a knife and another resident said that a gang of nine young people from the east of the city attacked him and his nine-year-old son.

"The situation in and around the neighborhood is deteriorating day by day," said neighborhood resident David M.

"The lack of governance has caused unrestrained people to roam around here, harassing women, harassing children and breaking into homes. "The residents put a hand in the private pocket to finance the patrol," he said.

"A total of three days have passed and an armed and intoxicated person has been apprehended without a firearm license in the heart of a residential neighborhood. We hope the municipality and police will now understand that the next attack is around the corner - and will do everything to expand security in and around Yemin Moshe - which have become, for a time, places that cannot be walked around in peace. "

Shahar Goldberg, founder and CEO of the security company "Shalevi Ashmoret", explained that "our security guards take proactive tours of the neighborhood, they create interactions with the residents who do not feel safe on the one hand, and on the other hand create interactions with people who make the residents afraid. There are guys from East Jerusalem here who come to drink and sometimes behave dangerously. "Our security guards are not armed, but walk around with trained patrol dogs, which allows them to control the incident without risking it, and to call the police."

PMI, for the development of East Jerusalem, rejected the accusations and claimed that a year ago security cameras were installed in the neighborhood at a cost of about NIS 200,000, which improved the residents' sense of security. The

police said: 24 hours a day, in overt and covert activity, initiating and responding. "Any report or complaint received by the police that raises the suspicion of committing a criminal offense is immediately dealt with professionally."

They added that "contrary to what is claimed, the data we have shows that this year there has been a significant decrease in the number of property offenses in the area. "
